SUMMARY
Flower structure enhances
reproductive potential of angiosperms. Petals
attract pollinators to increase the chances for
pollen dispersal. Ovaries protect developing ovules
when fertilization occurs. After fertilization
of the egg inside the ovule, the ovule develops
into a seed. Surrounding flower and plant tissue
form a fruit.
The variety of forms seen in
fruits reflects variety in mode of dispersal.
Some fruits are wind borne, whereas others provide
food for animals. Some seeds of edible fruits
must actually pass through the digestive tract
of an animal before they can germinate.
