FLOWERING PLANTS
Angiosperms produce pollen and eggs in specialized
reproductive structures called flowers.
The stamen of a flower consists
of a filament and anther. The anther contains
microsporangia in which meiosis occurs to produce
the microspores that will develop into pollen,
the immature male gametophyte.
Female reproductive parts (pistils)
consist of an ovary, style, and stigma. Within
the ovary are individual ovules, each of which
contains a megasporocyte that will undergo meiosis
to form four megaspores. One of these megaspores
will develop into the female gametophyte, which
will produce an egg nucleus.
