SUMMARY
The path of human evolution has been a complex one. Major steps along the way include bipedal (upright) walking, learning to build stone tools, harnessing the power of fire, and developing a complex culture, including art and spoken language. Several side branches of ancient hominids became extinct, and Homo sapiens is the only hominid in existence today.
