Charles Darwin spent 20 years
developing his manuscript for The Origin of
Species because he felt it was very important
to provide as much evidence in support of his
theory of evolution by natural selection as possible.
Since Darwin's time, the accumulation of additional
supporting evidence has been a major focus of
the science of biology. Primary categories of
evidence include the fossil record, studies of
comparative anatomy, biogeographical relationships,
and similarities and differences in developmental
biology and molecular biology.
