SUMMARY
DNA affects the phenotype of an organism through
gene expression, which involves two processes,
transcription and translation. Transcription involves
the synthesis of RNA molecules complementary to
the DNA. During translation, RNA is used as a
coded template to direct protein synthesis. In
eukaryotes, transcription takes place in the nucleus
and translation occurs at the ribosomes in the
cytoplasm.
