SUMMARY
Probably the most striking similarity between
the processes of cellular respiration and photosynthesis
is that their overall reactions are basically
the reverse of each other. The reactants in aerobic
respiration are the products in photosynthesis,
and vice versa.
Both processes produce ATP by
chemiosmosis, and both have similar electron transfer
compounds: NAD+ in aerobic respiration and NADP+
in photosynthesis. Both processes are associated
with cell organelles surrounded by a double membranethe
mitochondrion in aerobic respiration and the chloroplast
in photosynthesis.
